The Smokies Tennessee Region: More Than Just a National Park

The Great Smoky Mountains aren’t just a national park; they encompass an entire region filled with charming towns, each offering its unique appeal for weddings. Whether you’re drawn to rustic retreats, vibrant tourist destinations, or peaceful countryside, the Smokies region provides incredible settings for your big day.

Whether you’re looking for a cozy cabin or Airbnb, a bustling downtown atmosphere, or a secluded natural getaway, the Smokies region has something for every couple.

Sevierville, Tennessee

Sevierville is often the gateway to the Smoky Mountains and offers natural beauty and modern conveniences. Couples can find beautiful wedding venues, luxury cabins, and plenty of activities for guests. This includes shopping, dining, and outdoor adventures.

Gatlinburg, Tennessee

Gatlinburg is a popular wedding destination known for its scenic overlooks and charming downtown. The area provides stunning settings, from intimate chapel ceremonies to grand mountain resort weddings. It is also home to top-tier dining, entertainment, and hiking trails, making it an excellent place for a wedding weekend.

Pigeon Forge, Tennessee

Pigeon Forge is ideal for couples who want entertainment-packed wedding weekends. With Dollywood, dinner shows, and unique attractions, your guests will never be bored. Many wedding venues here offer all-inclusive packages, making planning easier. Consider this the “mini Las Vegas!”

Townsend, Tennessee

For a quieter, more secluded wedding experience, Townsend—also known as the “Peaceful Side of the Smokies”—is a perfect choice. This area features picturesque mountain backdrops, cozy cabin rentals, and private venues that feel like a hidden retreat.

Wears Valley, Tennessee

Wears Valley offers a blend of rustic charm and stunning mountain views. This area is great for couples who want a mix of elegance and nature without being too far from modern conveniences. The valley is known for its scenic roadways, private accommodations, and panoramic landscapes.

Walland, Tennessee

Walland, Tennessee, is a small, unincorporated community in Blount County, nestled in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. With its peaceful, rural charm, Walland serves as a gateway to outdoor adventures in the Smokies while remaining a quiet retreat from nearby busier tourist areas.

Estimated Cost of a Wedding in the Smokies

The good news is that the Smokies region offers options for every budget, from ultra-simple elopements to ultra-luxury experiences. Whether you’re looking for a scenic elopement with just the two of you or a lavish wedding weekend for your guests, there’s a price point that fits your vision. Below, we’ll break down the budget tiers and what to expect at each level.

Tier 1: The Simple Elopement – Under $1,000

A Smokies elopement is a cost-effective option for couples who want an intimate, no-frills wedding ceremony. Many couples opt for a location in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, where nature provides the perfect backdrop.

One expense in this category is the marriage license ($97.50) from the county clerk’s office. If you are eloping within the national park’s boundaries, you will also need a Special Use permit ($50).

Officiant fees range from $200 to $350, and if you want photos to commemorate the day, you can either DIY or hire a local photographer. Many couples can also add hair and makeup, a small bouquet and boutonniere, and a photographer, bringing the estimated cost to around $800-$1,000.

Best Locations: Cades Cove, Newfound Gap, Foothills Parkway

Ways to Save: Consider DIY florals. Booking an off-season date and smaller one-hour photography packages can also help reduce costs.

Tier 2: The Intimate Venue Elopement – $1,000-$3,000

For couples who want a slightly more structured elopement experience but still want to keep things affordable, an intimate venue elopement is a great option. Unlike a simple elopement in the elements, this tier often includes access to a private venue. This gives couples a designated space without the restrictions of public lands.

A venue like Chapel in the Hollow offers a picturesque setting with minimal setup. With this tight budget, couples can afford a dedicated ceremony space, an officiant, simple floral arrangements, and even a short photography session. Many venues also offer package deals that include decor and coordination, keeping the process stress-free.

Consider these Locations: Chapel in the Hollow, Appalachian Clubhouse

Ideal For: Couples who want a private ceremony space with beautiful surroundings while managing costs.

Baskets of blankets and a welcome sign sit on the left, while tables with green and white floral centerpieces grace the right. Twinkling lights and Christmas trees enhance the festive venues elegance.

Tier 3: The Micro-Wedding – $3,000-$9,000

For couples who want a bit more structure but still want flexible pricing, a micro-wedding with 20-40 guests is a perfect choice. These weddings often occur at cozy cabins, private venues, or designated ceremony venues in the Smokies.

With this budget, couples can afford professional photography ($1,900-$3,500), hair and makeup services ($250-$500), and floral arrangements ($300-$600). Many couples also opt for a simple dinner reception with close friends and family ($1,600), bringing total costs to around $3,000-$9,000.

Consider these Locations: Spence Cabin, Smithview Pavilion, Willow Ridge

Popular Additions: A small ceremony setup with an arch and chairs, a photographer, or a cozy treehouse rental for a post-ceremony celebration.

Tier 4: The Essential Wedding – $10,000-$25,000

A mid-range budget allows for additional customization if you want a structured wedding day with a few more guests. This range includes a beautiful venue, expanded floral arrangements, a catered meal, and professional photography.

Venue rentals in this tier typically range from $3,000-$6,000, and a full-day photography package (8-hour coverage) falls within $4,600-$5,500. Adding in catering ($2,000-$5,000), officiant and planning services ($500-$1,000), and additional décor and floral designs ($1,500-$3,000), the total cost for a well-rounded wedding experience lands between $8,000-$15,000.

Consider These Locations: The Magnolia, Dancing Bear Lodge, The Venue at Greenbrier Estate

Ideal For: Couples who want a structured wedding day with guests, a first look, a reception meal, and personalized décor.

This tier is for couples who want an elevated wedding experience. It includes a designed event with premium services, entertainment, and a stunning venue. Expect full-service planning, multiple vendors, and upgraded details.

With venue rentals ranging from $6,000-$15,000, floral design and décor at $3,500-$8,000, and catering and bar service between $5,000-$10,000, this category offers an elegant and seamless experience. Photography and videography are also prioritized, typically within $5,000-$6,000 each.

Consider These Locations: RT Lodge, Nichols Heir, The Trillium Venue

Why Choose This? This is the way to go if you want a fully designed wedding day, a formal reception area, catering, and a picturesque venue.

Tier 6: The Ultra-Luxury Wedding – $75,000 to Infinity!

For couples looking for a truly extraordinary wedding experience, ultra-luxury venues in the Smokies offer all-inclusive, high-end services in breathtaking surroundings. These weddings include full-service planning, gourmet dining, high-end accommodations, and a week or weekend of curated experiences.

Blackberry Farm: The Pinnacle of Luxury Weddings

One of the most exclusive wedding venues in the Smoky Mountains, Blackberry Farm offers a high-end, all-inclusive experience in a breathtaking setting. According to Pievents & Co., the average base cost for a wedding at Blackberry Farm is $78,000. The farm’s dedicated team can customize packages to include accommodations, dining experiences, and event coordination.

The farm’s dedicated team can customize packages to include accommodations, dining experiences, and event coordination. The packages vary based on the number of guests and the season:

  • Farmstead Wedding: Accommodates up to 40 guests with 20 guest rooms. Exclusive use of the Heirloom Garden and The Barn for the ceremony and reception. Prices are $65,000 (low season), $70,000 (mid-season), and $150,000 (high season).
  • Main House Wedding: Accommodates up to 78 guests with 39 guest rooms. Exclusive use of the Main House, Lawn, and Veranda for the ceremony and reception. Prices are $90,000 (low season), $105,000 (mid-season), and $200,000 (high season).

Guests are typically charged around $350 per night for their rooms, which can offset the overall cost. However, the host must collect these payments, as guests cannot pay the hotel separately. Alcohol and certain wedding vendors (e.g., photography, minister, florist, live entertainment) are not included in the package prices. The resort sits on a 4,200-acre property in the Smoky Mountains and has been named the Number 1 Resort in the Continental U.S. and Canada by Travel + Leisure magazine.

If you desire a truly extravagant wedding weekend with gourmet dining, luxurious accommodations, full-service wedding design, and premium entertainment, this is the ultimate Smokies wedding experience. Many celebrities, such as golfer Dustin Johnson and Paulina Gretzky, daughter of Wayne Gretzky, have wed on the property.

A Wedding in the Smoky Mountains for Every Budget

Many couples (including myself) will be between Tiers 1-4. Heck, maybe between Tiers 1-3! Now that you know the cost of a wedding in the Smoky Mountains, you can have a beautiful and meaningful wedding in the Smokies in Tennessee. Whether you’re eloping with just the two or planning a larger celebration, the most important part of your wedding day is your commitment to each other. Seriously! Marriage is the ultimate goal, and your wedding should reflect JOY.

Ways to Save on Your Wedding in the Smokies

Weddings can get expensive fast, but there are plenty of ways to keep costs down while still having a beautiful and meaningful day. The good news? You don’t have to sacrifice the magic of your wedding just to stick to a budget.

Venue & Ceremony Costs

One of the biggest ways to save money is to be flexible with your date. Getting married on a weekday or during the off-season (winter or early spring) can significantly lower venue and vendor costs.

Some venues also offer all-in-one packages that include tables, chairs, and even décor, reducing the need for extra rentals. If you’re open to a more natural setting, consider a scenic national park or a family-owned property to eliminate hefty venue fees. Of course, trimming your guest list is one of the easiest ways to cut costs—less food, fewer invitations, and a smaller venue can make a big difference.

Attire & Beauty Costs

When it comes to attire, you can be stylish without overspending. Shopping for a wedding dress at a sample sale or consignment boutique can save you hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars. Alterations can add up quickly! So, finding a dress that fits well off the rack is a huge win.

If you’re comfortable with a more low-key beauty routine, consider doing your own hair and makeup. Or enlist a friend with skills to help. If that idea isn’t ideal, contact a salon to see what beauty services they offer.

Food & Drink Costs

Food and drinks are often among the largest wedding expenses, but you can keep them budget-friendly. For example, sticking to beer and wine instead of a full open bar can help keep costs down while still giving guests great options. A food truck or buffet-style meal is often more affordable than a plated dinner. Similarly, a small decorated cake for photos and a sheet cake for serving guests can cut costs without sacrificing a sweet moment.

Photography Costs and Packages

Photography is where costs can quickly skyrocket. But you can make it more budget-friendly. Booking a photographer for fewer hours or on a weekday can help cut costs. If you aren’t sure what a photography package includes, contact them and see if they can work within your budget.

DJ & Entertainment Price Range

If you’re okay with a more DIY approach, creating a curated playlist instead of hiring a DJ is another way to trim your budget while keeping the party going. Music is a great way to keep a party going, so make sure any DIY approach fits your vibe.

Stationary & Favors Costs

Finally, stationery and favors are areas where couples often spend more than they need to. Digital invitations are an easy, modern alternative to traditional paper invites, saving on printing and postage. Printed programs, menus, and place cards can also add up—opting for a single welcome sign or a minimal approach to printed details can help cut costs without sacrificing style.

While a nice touch, wedding favors often get left behind. So, consider skipping them for a handwritten thank-you note or a fun guest experience, like a photo booth. Just remember, favors are great when they are edible, alive, useful, or a gift!

Oh, hey! Did you know I’m a family photographer, too? 😂

Because judging by my Instagram feed, you might think I photograph weddings exclusively.

Here’s a fun little fact: I photograph around 100 family sessions every year. And yet, you see only a tiny fraction of them.

Why? Well, a lot of my sessions involve little humans. And while I absolutely LOVE sharing the families I photograph, I’m also very aware of those little humans faces.

So, sometimes I photograph a beautiful family, deliver photos that I absolutely adore, and then those photos never make it to social media.

And I’m perfectly okay with that.

Not everything I photograph needs to become content. Some moments are just meant to belong to the people in them.

BUT, I also need to occasionally remind the world that family photography is a HUGE part of what I do. 😂

So, consider this your friendly reminder that I photograph families, I love photographing families, and I have openings for family sessions!

Actually, I have TWO remaining spots available on November 15. And..that’s it for me for the year 🧡
