Not only will you have the best backdrop that Mother Nature can provide, but you will have the best lighting, as well. If you are thinking about going outside and you live in Tennessee, the Smoky Mountains offer some of the best scenery around. Here are some things to keep in mind if you want to capture your precious memories in the Smokies.
LocationCHOOSE A01.
There are some really lovely trails. Cades Cove is also a very popular destination, especially for engagement photographs and elopements. As a Smoky Mountain permitted photographer, we are familiar with much of the area. We certainly have location suggestions. We want your pictures to be perfect.
Time of DayCHOOSE A02
Choosing a time of day will influence the mood and the outcome of your photos. Do you want to capture an early morning proposal? How about some fun family photos at sunset? You could have your wedding at sunset and reception photos with a host of fireflies making an appearance. We always make use of golden hour as it's the perfect time of day for photos

If the weather is less than hospitable, you may need boots and rain gear. If the weather is cool, you will want to wear a sweater or bring a jacket. You may not want to wear a three-piece suit to propose to your intended in the middle of July. Just saying. And if we will be photographing anywhere near a body of water or marshy ground, we will definitely have some mosquito repellent. Being prepared for whatever Mother Nature may throw at you will make your session go more smoothly!
PhotographerCHOOSE THE RIGHT04
The right photographer will not only have some ideas about how to stage your outdoor shoot but should be familiar with the area. Erin Morrison Photography is a professional photographer in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
PhotographerCHOOSE THE RIGHT04
I have photographed weddings, elopements, engagements and family photos. While I enjoy any outdoor setting, the Smoky Mountains National Park is a favorite location to photograph. I focus on capturing what is wonderful, unusual and unique in each of my subjects. I also look for those special moments that can be so easy to miss. Thank you for viewing my Smokies Portfolio page! If you would like to book a session with me, please contact me today.

I don’t even know where to begin with how TRULY AMAZING Erin is as a photographer & a person. If you want someone who will capture you in your purest emotions, in the most beautiful way then she’s your gal for the job. I thought our engagement photos were incredible, until I then also got our wedding photos back and Erin beat her own work. She radiates positivity, helps ensure things run super smooth on your wedding day, and is overall just a joy to have around shooting your photos. She is extremely professional and makes sure to capture things you don’t even realize she’s capturing. She put up with 30mph wind gusts on our day and still managed to make us look flawless. She breathes confidence into you and ensures you’re relaxed even if you have no clue what your doing at a photo shoot. She even knows how to help make sure you get in your dress properly! She’s unparalleled, truly a fantastic photographer for those huge moments in your life.”

Remember, there are so many amazing locations in Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, Townsend, Sevierville, and Wears Valley that are perfect for a “smoky mountain elopement.” Find the place that speaks to you! This mid-century mod location was perfect for Alaina and Travis.
And then…hire me to photograph it! Duh. Easy peasy 🥰

Some of these photos span the course of eight years.
And through my years as a wedding photographer I have learned that trends change but sisterhood is forever.
Here’s to the women who stand by their friend through thick and thin…and get her married! And help keep her married through a lifetime.
May your friendships last long after the flowers are gone 🫶🏻

We all know who’s in charge 😉
I spend so many days with amazing planners, florists, bartenders, DJs, and more. Knoxville and the Smokies truly has some of the best wedding no professionals around.
But, let’s talk photo and video. Hanging with second photographers and videographers by my side for the entire days is truly a treat. Never underestimate how fun wedding can be when we are all there together to truly give the best experience for our wedding couples.

The first half of 2026 has been such a wonderful adventure. It’s hard to put into words just how different each session and wedding can be. One day I’m spending 10 hours in the mountains photographing a wedding, and the next I’m chasing a toddler around a park just a few minutes from my home.
There’s one thing that has always been true about this job: every session is different. Every wedding is different. Every couple, every family, every story, every edit brings something new.
I’m just incredibly grateful for all the different that fills my world. Thank you for trusting me with your memories, your milestones, and the moments that make each day unlike the one before.
You may notice I’m a little quieter on social media over the next month.
In a digital world, while raising a tween, I’ve realized my face needs to be looking at hers more than it needs to be looking at my screen. My phone is going to spend a lot more time on the charger while I spend more intentional time at the pool, embracing this hot weather and soaking up these different kinds of summer days with my family.
The work will still be here. The emails will still get answered. Weddings and sessions will get booked (I’m still HERE).
But these summers? They don’t last forever.
