The Mill & Mine
If you’re looking for a unique wedding venue that is modern yet charming, then consider the Mill & Mine event center. The Mill & Mine is located in Downtown Knoxville, directly across from the Southern Railway Station and just one block north of Old City. Reconstructed after a fire, this downtown site was originally home to the Industrial Belting and Supply building—a company that supplied equipment for both mills and mines.
The capacity for large ceremonies and receptions allows for celebrating your special day with everyone you love. Capturing the celebratory moments in a way you’ll treasure forever requires the services of a professional Knoxville wedding photographer.
The Venue
One of the hardest decisions when planning a wedding is how many people to invite. This venue has 8,000 square-foot indoor event space and also has a covered patio and 8,000 square-foot courtyard lawn, perfect for an event tent. Any venue space directs the flow of any ceremony or reception and even guides whether people sit or stand—here, there are plenty of round tables and cocktail tables to accommodate your guests. The Mill & Mine offers incredible capacity, allowing for the following numbers:
- Seated dinner: 450
- Seated dinner with a dance floor: 350
- Cocktail reception: 600
- Theatre style: 500
- Ceremony and reception: 275
Set-up for your event can begin as early as 8 am, with four hours scheduled for the actual event—doors close at midnight. The event space features large skylights, perfect for dancing under the Tennessee stars while protected from the elements. Speaking of dancing, when it comes to lights and sound, the Mill & Mine has you covered. The venue has an in-house technical director to assist you with customizing this part of your event.
Full-service bar facilities with a professional staff serve an extensive selection of beer, wine, and liquor, as well as non-alcoholic beverages. There is a large catering kitchen and fully furnished dressing rooms are available for the bride and groom. Be sure to ask about Day of Event liability insurance as it is required by the venue.
Location
In addition to parking and ADA compliance, this charming downtown location is convenient to Historic Old City—home to shopping, art galleries, coffee shops, and restaurants. Your out-of-town guests will appreciate the free trolley that has been running since 1876. The Knoxville Trolley runs every 10 minutes and transports passengers around downtown and to Old City.
The McGee Tyson Airport is just 12 miles from downtown, making it another attractive feature for your out-of-town friends and family. They’ll find plenty to see and do, including Zoo Knoxville, one of the area’s premier attractions. Encourage your guests to celebrate with you and to explore the city around them while in town.
Why Mill and Mine Makes for Great Photography
I love the rustic, old industrial charm of this venue. The brick walls and wood elements create a backdrop that is unique to your wedding photography. While there’s nothing wrong with the standard hotel ballroom, a venue like the Mill & Mine radiates ambiance.
Selecting the right venue for your special day is a tough decision. Whether you are looking for a venue for your ceremony and/or the reception, this venue will provide a memorable experience for everyone. There’s something romantic about starting a new journey in an old section of a city, and in a building that rose again after destruction. The event space, while new, retains the elements of the building that once stood on the site.
The indoor skylights, outdoor lawn, and brick walls all make for great wedding photography. As I professional wedding photographer based in Knoxville, the Mill & Mine is one of my many favorite local wedding venues.
Erin Morrison Photography
Along with choosing the right venue, choosing the right photographer is equally important. I am always honored when asked to be a part of a couple’s special day. It’s truly a moment in time and my task to capture that is not one I take lightly.
That being said, I also know how to roll with changes and to not stress when things don’t go according to plan. Let’s face it—things happen and no wedding or reception is perfect. In fact, this is when some of the most memorable moments occur, like when a ring bearer drops the rings.
Spontaneous and unplanned moments result in the most natural emotions and make for great photography. My style is documentary, natural-light photography. I’d rather capture a shared smile with your grandmother than a staged picture beside her.
Knoxville, Tennessee is a great place to marry. Surrounded by the Smoky Mountains, the natural beauty along with the old city feel of downtown make it a magical place. I’m proud to call this place home and to apply my knowledge of the area to my wedding photography.

When the ceremony and reception are over, only the memories will remain. Preserving them is priceless as the years pass and as you reminisce about the people who celebrated with you. After the cake and the flowers, the pictures are what remain.
