Winter Wedding at Cloudland at McLemore Resort in Georgia

Julia and Spencer wanted a wedding experience that extended beyond a single day, giving them more time to celebrate with the people they love most. They chose Cloudland at McLemore Resort in Rising Fawn, Georgia. They gathered their closest friends and family from East Tennessee in one place. With everyone staying together on-site, they were able to enjoy the entire wedding weekend without traveling between multiple locations for each event.

The weather on Julia and Spencer’s wedding day was typical for late fall in the mountains. Low clouds rolled across Lookout Mountain throughout the day, changing the view from one hour to the next. Their gallery includes both the mountain scenery and the family and friends who made the day meaningful.

For couples who want the feel of a destination wedding without requiring guests to fly across the country, Cloudland at McLemore Resort is a practical option. Located within driving distance of both Chattanooga and Knoxville, it gives guests the opportunity to stay on-site and spend the weekend together without the logistics of a long-distance destination wedding.

Why CloudLand at McLemore Resort Is a Stunning Wedding Venue

One of the biggest advantages of Cloudland at McLemore Resort is its location on Lookout Mountain. The property combines mountain views with a modern resort, giving couples the ability to host nearly every part of their unforgettable wedding weekend in one place. With approximately 20,000 square feet of event space, multiple ceremony and reception locations, restaurants, and 245 guest rooms, there is plenty of room for guests to stay on-site while celebrating throughout the weekend.

The architecture complements the surrounding landscape rather than competing with it. Stone, wood, expansive windows, and natural light keep the focus on the mountain views while providing clean, modern spaces for photography. Whether couples prefer an outdoor ceremony or an indoor reception, the venue offers enough flexibility to accommodate a variety of wedding styles without feeling disconnected from its breathtaking views.

Indoor and Outdoor Event Spaces for Every Season

Weather is always a consideration when planning a mountain wedding. Cloudland at McLemore Resort addresses this with several indoor and outdoor event spaces, including ceremony lawns, a courtyard, terraces, and a covered pavilion.

The Covered Pavilion

Julia and Spencer chose the covered pavilion for their ceremony, overlooking Lookout Mountain. It offers the experience of an outdoor ceremony while providing shelter from changing mountain weather. Couples still enjoy expansive views without committing to a fully open-air ceremony.

Ballrooms with Floor-to-Ceiling Windows

The reception spaces feature large windows that keep the mountains visible while filling the rooms with natural light. Even if the celebration moves indoors, guests remain connected to the surrounding landscape.

Courtyards and Terraces

The courtyards and terraces are ideal for cocktail hour, portraits, or simply giving guests room to mingle. They also provide additional photo locations without ever leaving the resort.

The Creag for Smaller Gatherings

The Creag is a great option for rehearsal dinners, welcome parties, or farewell brunches. It offers a more intimate setting while still taking advantage of the mountain views.

On-Site Lodging for Wedding Guests

One of the advantages of hosting a wedding at Cloudland at McLemore Resort is the variety of on-site lodging available for guests. The resort offers traditional hotel rooms and suites, while the larger McLemore property also includes cottages, villas, and vacation homes for families or larger groups staying throughout the weekend.

For Julia and Spencer’s intimate wedding, having guests stay on-site made the weekend feel more connected. Instead of leaving immediately after the reception, family and friends could continue celebrating together and easily attend the rehearsal dinner, ceremony, and other wedding events without traveling between multiple locations.

Endless Portrait Locations Around the Property

One of the advantages of photographing a wedding at Cloudland at McLemore Resort is the variety of portrait locations within walking distance of one another. Couples can move between modern architecture, rolling hills, mountain overlooks, and open greens without spending time traveling. This allows the gallery to feel diverse while keeping the wedding day relaxed.

Guest Rooms and Suites

The luxurious accommodations provide a clean, modern space for getting-ready photos and quieter portraits before the ceremony. Large windows, neutral finishes, and natural light create an uncluttered backdrop that keeps the focus on the bride and groom.

The Highlands Course

The Highlands Course offers some of the property’s most expansive views. Open fairways, rolling terrain, and overlooks toward Lookout Mountain create portraits that showcase the surrounding landscape without requiring a lengthy walk from the main venue.

The Covered Pavilion

Before the ceremony, Julia and Spencer enjoyed photos at the rustic charm of the pavilion. With the mountains behind them and clouds moving across the valley throughout the afternoon, the scenery changed naturally over the course of the day.

A Ceremony Overlooking Lookout Mountain

Julia and Spencer exchanged their vows on the outdoor ceremony patio overlooking Lookout Mountain. Rather than placing a large arbor in front of the view, they kept the ceremony design simple with low floral arrangements that framed the space without blocking the surrounding mountains. The natural rock outcroppings and expansive landscape became part of the ceremony itself.

They also included a feet-washing ceremony, a symbolic tradition representing the joining of two lives. It was one of several intentional moments that reflected who they are as a couple and gave their ceremony a personal feel beyond simply exchanging vows.

The shifting weather, bare trees, and exposed rock formations created a quieter backdrop. For couples planning a wedding at Cloudland McLemore Resort, late fall offers a different perspective on the landscape while still showcasing the natural beauty of the mountains.

Why Rising Fawn Is One of Georgia’s Hidden Wedding Gems

Choosing a wedding at Cloudland at McLemore Resort is about more than the ceremony itself. Couples and their guests can turn the celebration into a full wedding weekend without leaving Rising Fawn.

Guests who arrive early can explore nearby Cloudland Canyon State Park. They can enjoy a round on the Highlands Course, book a spa treatment, or simply relax at the resort before the festivities begin. Having everything in one location allows family and friends to spend more time together instead of driving between hotels, restaurants, and wedding events.

For couples looking for a mountain destination that feels removed from the crowds, Rising Fawn offers the scenery of North Georgia while remaining within a two-hour drive of Knoxville, Chattanooga, Birmingham, and Atlanta. It provides the feeling of a destination wedding without requiring guests to travel across the country.
