The Bleak House
Getting engaged is such a huge and exciting milestone in your life. Now that you’re settling into using the wonderful word ‘fiance’ every chance you get, it’s time to start planning your wedding day! One of the most important decisions, before you can even begin planning, is where you want your ceremony and reception to be. If you’re lucky enough to be near Knoxville, TN (or willing to travel!) I have the perfect location for you. Meet the Knoxville Bleak House. It’s a charmingly beautiful mansion right in the heart of Knoxville, overlooking the Tennessee River. With so much history, romance, and beauty, you’ll quickly fall head over heels! Let’s explore everything this phenomenal venue has to offer.
The Bleak House is also known as the Confederate Memorial Hall. It was built in 1858 as a wedding present for two newlyweds, Robert, and Louisa Franklin Armstrong. Clearly, it’s been around for a long time and has become one of the finest historical homes in all of the South. It’s even on the National Register of Historic Places which is very impressive.
Knoxville Bleak House is so close to downtown making it a great location for both in and out-of-town guests. Great hotels, restaurants, and activities are all within close proximity to each other for exploring in their downtime.
The house itself is an Italian Tuscany villa-style mansion. The architecture will make your mouth fall open as you step foot onto the property. (Don’t drool!) Outside, the grounds are filled with character thanks to the beautiful gardens that were designed and planted more than 100 years ago. There are five flat and grassed terraced levels that descend towards the Tennessee River. The scenic river setting along with the lush gardens and Greek-inspired architecture paints an incredible backdrop for unforgettable photographs.
Inside the mansion, you’ll find antique furniture, 17-foot ceilings, an artifact museum, a Southern historic library, and fascinating memorabilia. Can you picture yourself gliding down the beautifully crafted wooden staircase in your stunning wedding dress? Or how about kissing your loved one right beside the historic pillars and romantic tangled lights above? Memories like these are even better when you’re in a stunning location such as this one. Everything about the Bleak House is so unique, just like the love you and your partner share.
I couldn’t mention this location without giving special mention to the incredible staff. The staff at Bleak House is 110% dedicated to giving you a flawless wedding and exceeding any expectations their clients may have. They truly go above and beyond in taking care of you and your guests and making you feel right at home in the venue. If you’re afraid of any hiccups on your big day, rest assured these helpful professionals will melt away your worries every step of the way leading up to and on your big day.
For weddings happening at the house, there is a charming bridal suite and a separate historical room for the groom/groomsmen to get ready. There’s plenty of space to accommodate all of your closest family and friends as they help you get camera ready. Enjoy a relaxing drink and chat with your best pals before you say your “I do’s!”
Along with the historic feel of the entire location, there is a lot that can be left up to your imagination. You’re free to bring in your own decorations and make the venue whichever the way you envision it. Whether you’re wanting a country, modern, rustic, or themed vibe, the choice is yours. Let your imagination run wild.
The Bleak House can accommodate 100 guests inside the home or up to 300 outside in the gardens. This venue is perfect for smaller, more intimate weddings. Guests will be in awe of the stunning grounds which they get to wander for the night. Don’t be surprised if your guests talk about your wedding for many years to come!
