Relix Variety Theatre
Balancing your desire for a simple wedding that includes touches of elegance is possible when you choose the Relix Variety Theatre for your venue. This renovated 1915 grocery store space contains the best of both worlds—old and new. Premier amenities deliver superb quality among the exposed bricks and wooden beams of yesteryear. The location is not only convenient, but it is also about an hour from the beautiful Great Smoky Mountains. As a professional Knoxville wedding photographer, I delight in capturing celebrations of love at this downtown Knoxville venue.
The Relix Variety Theatre offers event space of 5,000 square feet that accommodates up to 300 people in a setting that is both historic and modern. This urban space features:
- Large, front windows
- 30-foot rough-sawn wood ceilings
- Exposed bricks
- Light grey walls
- Polished concrete floors
- Chandelier and bistro lights
The building’s history as first, CI Vest Dry Goods and later, as White Stores grocery, helps to contribute to its charm. The venue radiates an ambiance among the character features preserved among the earlier construction materials. The light grey walls allow for any color scheme and the polished concrete floors are perfect dancing the night away.
The large, front windows provide natural light, perfect for great photography. When the sun goes down and the Tennessee stars come out, the chandelier and bistro lights illuminate the space in a way that’s almost magical.
I love photographing celebrations of love in settings like that of the Relix Variety Theatre for this very reason—the lighting and the ambiance. When these two elements come together, they create a backdrop that is perfect for professional wedding photography.
There are so many details when it comes to planning a wedding that it is easy to overlook a basic need. Everything you could possibly need for a successful ceremony and/or reception, the Relix Variety Theatre provides, including:
- A full commercial kitchen
- Projection system with 18″ screen
- Outdoor patio
- Private loft and suite
- Two concrete bars with full beer, wine, and liquor

- Private parking
The Relix Variety Theatre also provides optional in-house services to help guide you through your planning and the actual event. Professional staff can help you plan your catering, floral design, and full-service bartending needs. Their added touch of day-of assistance provides peace-of-mind for nervous brides.
Planning a wedding is an overwhelming experience for most. The Relix Variety Theatre team works to make your planning and event as stress-free as possible so you can relax and enjoy your special day.
A convenient location is just the icing on the cake for this venue. Located one mile north of Old City, the Relix Variety Theatre is in the historic Happy Holler section of Downtown Knoxville. The theatre is accessible from I-275, making it easy to find.
Happy Holler received its name during prohibition. The back alleys of Happy Holler were known as easy places to purchase alcohol and where great revelry took place. The history of Happy Holler makes the Relix Variety Theatre a great place for a 1920’s theme wedding. The Happy Holler district is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The district developed, in part, to the expansion of the trolley system built in 1905. Visitors today can still enjoy the trolley system as an effortless way to navigate downtown, using any of the three existing trolley routes. The best part? The Knoxville trolley rides are free! Visiting friends and family will enjoy exploring the shops and restaurants of Downtown Knoxville. Encourage them to plan an extra day or two to enjoy all the area has to offer. For lodging options, contact Knoxville area hotels to inquire about group rates for your out-of-town wedding guests.
Erin Morrison Photography
Born and raised in Illinois, I now call Tennessee home. As a professional wedding photographer, I never tire of capturing celebrations of love among the beauty of the Knoxville region. A wedding requires so much planning, yet the day is over in the blink-of-an-eye. Savoring every moment that occurs with your spouse, your family, and your closest friends should be your focus—capturing those moments is my focus as your wedding photographer.
Let’s face it—even the can go astray. Rolling with the changes is just part of my skills for it is these types of moments that often make great photographs. My approach is atypical of standard wedding photographers. I believe in documentary-style photography that celebrates the imperfect people and moments of your celebration.
For celebrations at the Relix Variety Theatre, the large windows radiate this light in a way that illuminates your photographs. Using this light to its best advantage is what I do. Rustic, charming, urban, and elegance await you at this unique events venue in Downtown Knoxville. It’s a blank slate ready for your creativity. Venues like the theatre book quickly so secure your date as soon as possible.
