Historic Westwood Wedding Venue Knoxville

Historic Westwood

Imagine getting married in a large brick and stone house in downtown Knoxville, designed and built in the rich style of the Gilded Age. All the elegance of the decorations and architecture lend themselves perfectly to your own priceless moments. The atmosphere of Historic Westwood is quiet, refined, and above all, elegant. The furnishings are suitable for the finest event of your life. You and your guests will treasure your wedding ceremony and reception as an event that transcends time, located both in the present glorious moment and the richness of the historic Victorian home.

The Venue

The beautiful and impressive Queen Anne style house is both a showcase for art and a venue for special events. The original home has been restored to portray the home as it looked during the late 19th century. This Is when John Lutz and his artist wife Adelia Armstrong Lutz first resided there. At that time, it was a fine home and art studio, as well as a place where the Lutz family encouraged other artists. Today, the historical glamour of Westwood fits perfectly into a modern Knoxville wedding.

Wedding ceremonies and receptions can take place in any of the available spaces of this venue. This includes the entire main floor of the house, the front porch, the porte-cochere, and two of the side lawns. An outdoor ceremony can hold up to 200 guests, and afterward, your guests can enjoy a guest tour of the Historic Westwood home. All of this is included in the rental fee. The home can also be used as a getting-ready spot for the wedding party before the ceremony is held outdoors.

Using four of the rooms on the main floor of the house, this venue can seat 50 guests. The largest room is Adelia’s studio. It will seat 24 people comfortably around three 60-in. round tables. If you choose to use the rooms for a cocktail-style event, the maximum capacity is 100 guests.

The main floor of this venue is ADA accessible, including the restrooms.

Your evening event must end by 11pm. You may have up to one hour afterward to clean up. Due to city ordinance and out of respect to neighbors, all amplified music needs to end at 10pm. There may be alcohol served at your event, but the bar service needs to stop at least 30 minutes before the end of the event.

Historic Westwood in Knoxville, Tennesssee

The History

Westwood began as a home to John and Adelia Lutz. It was designed by Knoxville’s first architectural firm, Baumann Brothers. The best room in the house is also the largest one: Adelia’s painting studio. Adelia could paint to her heart’s delight, and it’s obvious she delighted in beauty. Her studio features a cathedral ceiling, majestic windows, a skylight for lovely natural light (and gorgeous wedding photos), and a fireplace. The walls are painted red, Adelia’s favorite color. The fireplace is lined with tiles that are painted with portraits of Adelia’s favorite authors.

Throughout the historic house, you’ll find over thirty of Adelia’s paintings, accompanied by other works of art from various Knoxville artists. What did Adelia paint? Most of her well-known works are exquisite paintings of flowers. She also painted portraits, especially of her children. Adelia Armstrong Lutz is Knoxville’s first successful female artist, and Westwood was home to her studio where she also encouraged other area artists through lessons and exhibits.
