Electric Halloween Wedding Inspiration

Planning a Halloween wedding doesn’t mean creating a tacky event.  Moody or Halloween-inspired weddings, can easily be presented in a tasteful and sophisticated manner. Weddings with these types of themes are a popular trend today, and can actually be quite stylish.

With a talented lineup of vendors and a skilled professional wedding photographer, your Halloween wedding can be an event to remember. One you can relive forever via the magic of beautifully planned and executed photos and video.

Recently Ascend Theory, an organization of wedding photography artists dedicated to combining their experience in order to elevate and share their craft, invited a group of local photographers and vendors to put their talents together for an inspirational Halloween wedding shoot. As a founding member of Ascend Theory, I had the privilege of not only planning but photographing this event in pictures.

The Aesthetics

The dark and dramatic mood of a Halloween wedding can be created in a chapel, cathedral, or outdoors in a forest. Our shoot took place at the “haunting” site of Hiwassee River Weddings and Events. The coordinator who put it all together was Team Wedding Knoxville. Tables, seating, and props were provided by All Occasion Party Rentals.

Invitations and Lettering

Invitations should represent the type of ceremony you’re planning, so guests know what to expect. You can get as dramatic as you want, or go simple and classic. Basic black and white create drama while remaining stylish. Elms Lettering provided the calligraphy for our event’s simply attractive place cards and accents.

Want something a bit more extreme? Check out some of these “till death do us part” themed designs posted on my Pinterest page.

Moody Lighting

When you think of Halloween, darkness comes to mind. But it’s thoughtfully chosen and placed lighting that draws the theme together and makes for impressive and memorable wedding photography. We selected this venue for our shoot, for its multiple locations and use of lighting across the property.

Edison-style bulbs work exceptionally well for Halloween Wedding setups. Edison bulbs, set up vertically on tables amid artfully arranged flowers, props, and themed refreshments, created a subtle reminder of a Frankenstein movie set that fit the theme of the event perfectly. The Edison bulbs were a perfect accent for the ceremony site also.

In fact, Edison bulbs are big these days for various wedding themes. Candles will always be appropriate as lighting accents. We used them extensively to create a mood at our site.  But the wide range and quality of Edison bulbs available today make them a great choice for many types of settings.

Orange-Smorange

Classic black can form the basis for many types of weddings. A predominance of black is of course perfect for a Halloween ceremony. Accent shades like blood red, burgundy, gray, deep purple or green, silver, or gold can work well. The theme can be witchy or gothic, which can evoke a feeling of power, danger, drama, whatever the wedding couple prefers.

Choose only a few basic shades, accented by pops of color that complement and add interest, as the roses did for our shoot to keep the effect focused and tasteful.  We certainly appreciate all the floral decor that Elizabeth Daniels created including the tablescape and Halloween wedding bouquet.

Trick or TREATS

Some couples go casual when planning Halloween wedding fare. Others serve complex, unique takes on traditional arrays, with the presentation geared toward the specific wedding theme. The delectably dark cupcakes, cookies, and treats (love the dramatic take on candy apples) for this inspiration Halloween wedding shoot were brought to us by All Mixed Up Cakes.

Master mixologists know how to create witches’ brew. Check out the steamy drinks offered up at the bar trailer provided by Single Barrel Events. How do you make drinks appear to smoke? There are secrets but hire a professional.  Don’t try it at home!

Looking The Part

So you’ve dreamed of your wedding day since childhood. When you were young, you probably pictured a pristine white gown. But as you matured, your tastes changed. You enjoy displaying your individualism. What better time than your wedding day to live the dream of playing the role of a powerful, yet cultured and beautiful princess of darkness?

Sleek hairstyles like the one created for our model by Knoxville Bridal Hair can deliver the right look. But super curly could work too. It’s a talented makeup application that really brings sought-after expression to facial features. Our fashionable makeup artist was Rosio Glam

Who says wedding dresses can’t be black? Certainly not witches or gothic brides. Silver tiaras instead of veils? Why not?  Mixed dark hues of tuxes and ties are a great fit for grooms. This type of attire was provided for our models by The Gilded Gown and Regal Tuxedo.

Knoxville and the entire Smoky Mountain Area is a lovely setting for a wedding during any of the year’s seasons. Autumn is a particularly wonderful time to wed amid the mountains. The colored leaves, followed by the artistry of the bare branches that cover the hilltops, and all the nature that surrounds us, create a perfect stage for destination wedding ceremonies, receptions, and honeymoons.

There’s no better place than Tennessee for a Halloween wedding that’s tasteful, not tacky. Interested in planning such an event in the Knoxville area, or a nuptial ceremony that’s a bit more classic? No matter the theme, contact Erin Morrison Photography to capture the spirit of every moment of your event in all its detail to enjoy forever.
