Wildflower Photos at Cherokee Farm in Knoxville, Tennessee

If you are looking for wildflower photos in Knoxville, Tennessee, one of my favorite spring locations is UT Research Park at Cherokee Farm. Tucked away near the river in South Knoxville, Cherokee Farm offers some of the prettiest spring blooms in East Tennessee without needing to drive deep into the mountains.

One of the reasons I love this location for spring photos is that it feels open and peaceful while still being incredibly accessible. The walking paths, blooming flowers, tall grasses, and soft sunset light all work together. Whether you are planning family photos, engagement photos, maternity photos, or graduation portraits, Cherokee Farm has a really natural feel that photographs so well.

When Wildflowers Bloom at Cherokee Farm

Spring blooms at Cherokee Farm typically start appearing in mid-March and continue through mid-April, depending on the weather each year. In some years, the flowers arrive earlier, while cooler temperatures can delay peak bloom slightly. The location also has a mix of open sky, walking trails, trees, and textured natural areas, which helps create a lot of variety in a single session.

Because spring in East Tennessee can move quickly, the bloom window is often shorter than people expect. If you are hoping for peak wildflower photos in Knoxville, I always recommend planning ahead.

Why Cherokee Farm is Perfect for Spring Photos

One of the biggest reasons I recommend Cherokee Farm for wildflower photos is that it works well for so many different types of sessions.

Family Sessions: There is plenty of room for kids to move around without feeling confined. The open spaces make sessions feel more relaxed and natural, rather than overly posed.

Couples and Engagement Session: For couples and engagement sessions, the tall grasses and yellow flowers create a really soft, romantic atmosphere without needing an elaborate setup. Sunset light here is especially beautiful in the spring.

Graduation Session: Many graduating seniors at UTK prefer campus photos. But, Cherokee Farm offers a more natural alternative to the traditional campus look, while remaining close to the University of Tennessee.

I also love that the backgrounds here feel very East Tennessee. It has that mix of nature and softness that fits spring photos perfectly without looking overly manicured.

Best Time of Day for Wildflower Photos

The best time for wildflower photos at Cherokee Farm is typically the hour before sunset. Golden hour light tends to wash the fields in a beautiful glow, giving photos a softer, warmer look.

Weekdays are often quieter than weekends, which can make sessions feel a little more relaxed overall. But again, the window for photos is short, as most of the flowers bloom between mid-March and mid-April.

What to Wear for Spring Wildflower Photos

Soft colors tend to photograph beautifully against the spring blooms at Cherokee Farm. Neutral tones, earthy colors, soft blues, creams, muted pinks, and lighter fabrics all work especially well in this environment.

I usually recommend avoiding overly bright neon colors or heavy patterns, since the flowers and greenery already add a lot of natural texture and color to the photos.

For families, outfits that coordinate rather than perfectly match tend to photograph most naturally.
